One thing that is extremely important to me (and to many other designers) is workflow and the efficiency we need to have in order to survive. With the advent of computers, clients expect things NOW not in a week. Our lives are nearly entirely controlled by how we do the things we need to do. This is why UI changes to the adobe suite are met with such fury, and why file systems are so scrupulously named and maintained. Likewise with our fonts - possibly one of the most infuriating parts of our jobs is dealing with the complete cluster that is font management; competing foundries, proprietary formats, etc. Which is why I have to tell you how completely infuriated I became when I read this little bit on Letterhead Fonts regarding their proprietary font management system. I am so completely floored at this arrogance and complete disregard for the designer, I am going to have to discourage you, my fair reader, from ever buying fonts from Letterhead again. I mean, I'm all for typographers getting paid; but to require me to make special arrangements in defiance of the industry standard? What about my rights as a consumer to fair use? Nowhere does our misguided friend speak of fair use, of my rights as a consumer to back up, and properly utilize my fonts as I see fit. No my friend, you will not start a revolution in type dissemination; instead you will lose business, anger customers, and garner zero respect from the people you rely upon for business. You've lost me as a customer and lost my business for sure. This is why the consumer rejects DRM on his music, his movies, and his media, and I expect he will always do the same for his fonts. Shame on you.
